How to integrate PayNow to Shopify? Anyone using it?

I’ve been looking into checkout behaviour for Singapore-based Shopify stores, and one thing stood out:

A lot of stores still rely heavily on credit cards…

But many customers here prefer PayNow for faster and simpler payments.

That got me thinking how much conversion are we actually losing at the payment stage?

Why PayNow matters (especially in SG)?

From what I’ve seen:

• People don’t like entering card details on mobile
• PayNow feels more “local” and trusted
• Payments are instant (no waiting, no friction)

For users, it’s literally:

• Scan QR → approve → done

But here’s the catch

Shopify doesn’t support PayNow natively.

You need to connect it through third-party gateways like:

• HitPay
• Rapyd
• FOMO Pay

What happens during checkout?

If PayNow is set up properly, the flow is actually very smooth:

1. Customer selects PayNow
2. QR code is generated
3. They scan via banking app (DBS / UOB / OCBC)
4. Payment is completed instantly
5. Order gets marked as “Paid” automatically

Why some stores hesitate?

A few common concerns I’ve noticed:

• Setup feels “technical”
• Not sure which provider to choose
• Confusion around fees (Shopify + gateway combined)
• Fear of payment errors

But once it’s configured properly, it’s quite stable.

Cost vs benefit (quick view)

• PayNow fees: ~0.9% – 1%
• Shopify fee (if using 3rd party): up to 2%

Still often cheaper than credit cards in many cases.

Plus:

• Faster cash flow
• No chargebacks (big win)
• Better mobile experience

Common mistakes to avoid

From what I’ve seen, most issues come from:

• Setting it live without testing
• Webhook misconfiguration (orders stay “Pending”)
• Currency mismatch (PayNow works only in SGD)
• Incomplete verification with provider

Simple test tip

Before going live:

• Create a $1 test product
• Place an order using PayNow
• Check if it updates to “Paid”
• Verify it in both Shopify & gateway dashboard

This alone can save a lot of headaches later.
