Any reliable ways to validate GEO data accuracy?

Question

I’ve been seeing a lot of GEO tools claiming they can estimate traffic coming from LLMs, or even track where customers are coming from, but at the end of the day LLMs are probabilistic systems, so it’s really unclear how these numbers are actually being calculated.

With traditional SEO tools, most of them rely on large-scale crawling systems to estimate traffic, and while there’s always some error, it’s usually within a reasonable range. Plus you have tools like Google Search Console that can help you verify where traffic is actually coming from. So there’s at least some ground truth.

GEO tools feel very different. A lot of them just give you metrics like “visibility” or “mentions,” but without much explanation behind how those numbers are generated. It’s basically a black box.

What I’m trying to figure out is how people are validating this kind of data in practice. Are you building your own ways to cross-check GEO metrics, or comparing them with traditional SEO signals to see if anything lines up?

Also curious if there are any baseline data sources people actually trust. Especially for those running campaigns across multiple regions. It’s pretty common to see dashboards that look great, but traffic or conversions don’t really move.

Right now it just feels like we’re looking at numbers that are hard to verify, and even harder to trust. Would love to hear how others are dealing with this.
