Bingeing from a need to switch off completely – what actually helped you break that?
I’m trying to understand if anyone has dealt with this specific pattern.
For me, bingeing isn’t about hunger. I know what physical hunger feels like, and this is different.
It usually starts in the afternoon/evening, especially when I’m alone. What I’m really craving is a kind of total surrender: sitting on the couch, eating large amounts of sugary/fatty food, and entering this “time bubble” where nothing else exists and I don’t have to care about anything.
It feels almost like a ritual. Once I start, something in my brain pushes me to keep going until I’m physically uncomfortable.
I’ve already worked through a lot of the “why” (stress, restriction cycles, dopamine, etc.), so I’m not really looking for explanations.
What I’m looking for is:
Has anyone found something that actually helped in the moment when that urge to completely switch off hits?
