Modelling Tree Branch Failure
I am given a project to monitor tree branch failure. My current approach is to use an accelerometer to monitor its position and movement over time. From the references I found, the two forces that causes tree branch failure are torsion and bending moment. However, I am unable to apply such forces into a healthy tree branch.
I need to develop a model on which I can test my design. My field is EE, with no prior knowledge on trees and very limited knowledge on mechanics.
I am trying to procure wooden beams as simplified model of the branches. However, I am unable to find a fitting method to model the branch joint and tree leaves. I have also failed to come up with a satisfactory idea on giving torsion and bending moment to the model.
Can someone help me come up with ideas for the tree branch model and the experiment setup?
