AITAH - Hotel cost group trip

My family and another family planned a trip to Cancun. We decided on a hotel and booked separate rooms at $2k each. I later found out I could upgrade my room to a small villa (I have status) so that total cost would be $3k and suggested to the other family that it would be better if they cancelled their room and we split the cost of the bigger place. We would be changing from 2 tiny hotel rooms to a 2 bedroom home with a living room and kitchen. They agreed to the bigger place but were on the hook for a $500 non refundable fee. They want to get the bigger place and for me to pay half the cancellation fee. AITAH if I don’t help pay the fee?
