Rejected from 5% deposit scheme

My broker told me today that I don’t qualify for the First Home Buyers 5% deposit scheme!

I M36 have worked hard over the years to save a deposit and enter the market as a single. I works as a teacher in, hard to staff schools in remote communities across NSW. I go where the work is needed during the school term, and return to my parents home in the holidays. I think of it kind of like FIFO but for longer stints.

I currently have subsidised rent in the remote town I work and my purchase (in a bigger rural town) would become my PPOR. The bank said that my attempt to enter the scheme was ‘not in the spirit of it’ and have rejected my application.

What the AF? Without teachers going to rural our schools literally would cease to function. And now I need to take on LMI, borrow more and plunge myself further into debt because some wasp thinks a 4hr drive on long weekends or the schools is a long way. Bloody ridiculous.

Anyone else been rejected from the schemes?
