biohacking is becoming such a money pit... anyone else going back to basics?

😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm

hey everyone, i’ve been lurking in the biohacking subs for like a year now and honestly... i’m just tired. like, genuinely exhausted. i think i fell for every single marketing gimmick in the book. i bought the $500 red light panels that take up half my wall, the blue light glasses that make me look like an extra in a 90s hacker movie, the expensive wearable trackers that literally just tell me i’m "stressed" when i already know i’m stressed because i'm staring at a screen for 10 hours a day.

i was taking like 15 different supplements every morning and another 5 at night just to "optimize" my sleep, but then i’d spend an hour staring at my sleep data the next morning feeling like a failure because my rem cycle was 5 minutes too short. it’s like i was spending more time managing my "stack" and checking my stats than actually living my life. i became obsessed with "perfect" health and it ended up just making me more anxious than i was before i started any of this.

but for the past month i just... stopped. i boxed up the gadgets and stopped buying the $80 jars of "miracle" greens. i started just walking outside for 10 mins as soon as i wake up to get some actual sun on my face and i started putting my phone in another room at 9pm so i’m not doomscrolling till midnight. and i hate to say it but i feel so much better now than i ever did when i was using all the tech. my brain fog is actually clearing up and i’m not constantly obsessing over my bio-data.

am i the only one who thinks 90% of this industry is just expensive hype designed to sell us plastic and overpriced vitamins? it feels like we’re over-complicating things that our bodies already know how to do if we just get out of the way. we’re trying to hack our way out of bad habits instead of just fixing the habits.

i’m done buying stuff lol. what’s one thing you guys do that’s actually free and legit moved the needle for you? i’m looking for real-life advice that doesn't involve a subscription or a bluetooth connection. give me your most "low-tech" wins.

my info for context:

  • age/sex: 26f
  • lifestyle: office job, mostly sedentary but trying to walk more
  • goals: better sleep quality and less morning brain fog
  • supplements: used to be everything, now just magnesium and d3
  • questions: what's your #1 free "hack" that actually works?
