I redeemed 15K UR + ~$55 for a 50-minute business class flight.

BEFORE you crucify me, this is the situation. My girlfriend desperately needed to get from Florence to FCO in the next few days for a morning flight. Due to scheduling conflicts, the strange timing of the outbound flight, and the fast-approaching date, essentially all bus and train tickets were sold out or would not arrive in time. However, there was an early morning flight from FLR to FCO operated by ITA that worked; however, cash economy fares were somewhere in the 200 euro range.

Since ITA was essentially part of the Star Alliance then (I believe it may become a full member soon?), a couple of award hits came up, including a 15k miles + ~$75 CAD redemption from Air Canada Aeroplan (also possible: 30k United miles + $20 or something. Thanks, United). However, the economy fare wasn't available, so this was the business class one. Well, we really need this flight, so I transferred over the UR and booked it immediatley. Apparently, the flight also comes with free breakfast, which is pretty impressive to accomplish in 50 minutes.

My girlfriend has always been pretty skeptical of the points and miles game, but safe to say that this helped change her mind a little bit. The CPP based on the cash price for business was somewhere in the 2.05 range, but I scored huge boyfriend points so maybe the true CPP is like 3? Who knows.

Thought this was funny to share. Does anyone else have a similar experience? Or know what the value of Boyfriend Points are?
