I made a petition because I know what’s happening in Ontario is bigger than people are treating it.
I made this petition because I’ve been paying attention to what’s happening in Ontario, and the more I read, the less it feels like a bunch of separate issues.
It feels like a pattern.
Environmental protections are being weakened. Public input seems to matter less and less. Indigenous rights and consultation keep getting treated like barriers instead of responsibilities. And more and more ecologically important land is being exposed to development, extraction, or political decision-making with fewer real safeguards.
That’s what pushed me to make the petition.
For me, this is not just about one bill or one controversy. It’s the direction of all of it together.
The Greenbelt situation was a huge part of that. Protected land was opened up to development, and the government only backed off because the public reaction was so strong. I keep thinking about what that says. If people hadn’t pushed back that hard, those lands were just going to be gone.
Bill 5 adds to that. The weakening of species protections adds to that. The situation around the Ring of Fire and the James Bay Lowlands adds to that too. Same with old-growth forests and intact forest systems being treated like they’re replaceable once they’re opened up or fragmented.
They’re not.
And neither is meaningful Indigenous consultation. That’s another huge part of this that keeps getting minimized. These aren’t symbolic concerns. These decisions affect land, rights, stewardship, jurisdiction, and entire communities.
What gets to me is how easily all of this starts being framed as normal, technical, or necessary.
I don’t think it is.
I think it reflects a bigger shift in how land, ecosystems, public oversight, and Indigenous rights are being treated. And I think that should concern a lot more people than it seems to.
That’s why I made the petition.
Not because I think a petition solves everything, but because I don’t think this should just pass by without public attention or pushback.
Here it is if anyone wants to read it or sign:

Even if you don’t sign, I really think this is worth looking at more closely.
Because I don’t think this is just politics as usual.
