I need help deciding between 2 and 3
I'm having trouble with 2 and 3, because I relate to a lot of the traits/behaviours in both, but leaning towards 2 with the basic desires/fears of 3... so I have a few questions and comments in hopes of getting an outside perspective.
(sorry if this is a bit all over the place)

If 3 is about adaptation, could they not display traits of most types? If being nice and kind is what gets 3 the recognition that they want, or if the environment they're in values selflessness and kindness, would they not show traits of a 2 whilst still being a 3?
-
I feel like I don't actively push for success the way that 3s do (or is this just a stereotype?), even though I really want it (and often fantasize about it), am I just burnt out? Are 3s allowed to be burnt out and stop moving to catch their breath? I feel like when I have a passion, I easily fixate on it and try to (or at least deeply yearn to) become the best. But these are often fleeting interests, and I'm quickly demotivated if my efforts go unrecognised, but also if I don't find it fun anymore (to me, entertaining = recognition, if I'm not praised, it's not fun, but if I am praised, it makes it fun for me, but I have to have both).

I heard that 3s may exaggerate or even lie about achievements to seem more impressive, which I tend to do more than this exaggeration of goodness and selflessness that 2s do. But is it still enough if, again, I'm not really moving towards anything right now? I find myself exaggerating achievements from 2-3 years ago, or recent but minor achievements that objectively don't mean much, can this still be seen as 3 behaviour?

I read that, because 3s are adaptable, how they define success is deeply influenced by what their environment values. Growing up, I feel like a lot of emphasis was put onto natural intellect and ability, I feel like I tend to comply to those values overall, e.g. I'll exaggerate the fact that I didn't study for an exam yet still got a passing/good mark, and even though I know I could've achieved more if I had studied (sometimes I'll beat myself up over it), I'm more inclined towards this "I can do it without much effort" mindset - especially if those around me did work hard for it, it's like a superiority thing I think. I tend to use this "yeah, I know I did good*, and* I could do better if I tried" as some kind of crutch (maybe I'm scared of my effort not yeilding the results I want). Overall, this is how I approach most academic situations, and I also tend to fantasize about picking up new hobbies and simply being naturally good at them, again I think this is because growing up I felt that natural ability > hardwork. Can this be considered 3-like?

Ideally, I want to be successful and well-known, but I feel like everyone wants that? And I don't know if I can sacrifice the love and support around me for that. However, I also don't know if I can accept a life where, despite being surrounded by people who love me and deem me as the most important to them, I'm not successful by objective standards and simply just another person. If I'm not successful, I'm a nobody, but if I'm not loved and adored by my circle, I'm also a nobody. Either scenario, it doesn't feel like enough, and I don't know if I can sacrifice the desires of a 3 for those of a 2 and vice versa, to me, they go hand in hand.

I want love and attention, but I feel like every heart type wants that, no? Ultimately how I work to receive it depends on the person. If the person values supporting and being there for each other, I'll do that. If they value a lighthearted and easygoing type of person, I'll be that. I often find myself thinking "are they pulling away from me? what can I do to make them pay attention to me again? what kind of friend do they want me to be right now?" However this won't get to the point of me compromising my own wants/needs (unless I'm spiralling), and if I do, it's not something I can keep up for long before eventually blowing up. Socially speaking and aside from one-to-one relations, it's a bit difficult to say because it's not my main focus, but I do catch myself often thinking "is this okay? do the people around me do this?" and go from that. Overall, whilst I do feel I have certain values that are set in stone, my lesser ones can be changed and optimized depending on the situation, e.g. I might abandon certain etiquette if those around me do vs I might rigidly stick to it if I feel it's what my current environment demands - it depends on "is this [specific person] here to watch?" and if not, "what does the majority want?"

Regarding ego, I tend to be more like "I'm better than others, people should consider themselves lucky to know me" without really doing much. It's like I expect it, I expect good treatment because I feel like I automatically deserve it simply because I'm me. I was quite insecure when I was younger, and I started seeing all this content of people who are so confident and started to surround myself with people like that, so I guess I just kind of forced myself into this more confident and pretty arrogant persona? As for where it comes from now, I'm not really sure. It could come from achievement, or more like, is amplified by achievement (e.g. if I do a better job than someone else, I automatically feel entitled to praise, but that's because of what I did AND who I am). It could also come from feeling like I did good for others (e.g. if I was there for someone at their worst, I feel like they should feel indebted to me, and I will automatically expect them to either do the same or praise me for it). Is this kind of expectation more 2 or 3?

When it comes to receiving attention/praise, whilst I do like the idea of people saying things like "you're so important to me" it doesn't feel like enough. If I ask someone what they like about me, and their only reply is something along the lines of "you're nice and good to me" it's like... ok, and what else? Is it something I do that you like? Am I pretty? Am I smart? Give me feedback, is there something you want me to change? Ultimately, I'd place more value on people liking me for achievements/looks rather than just me being there for them and someone they can depend on, because I feel like it's a given that you should be there for your friends/lovers, so why say that you like me for that? It feels like cheap praise to me, traits like being nice/kind/supportive/a good listener, you can find in most people. What do you like about me that only I can do?

Something I see a lot about 2s is this minimizing of your own needs and maximising those of others, which I might do, but only when I'm seriously not doing well. It's this sort of last ditch effort to get attention. When healthy, if I'm faced with a dilemma of conflicting wants/needs, I'm more prone to compromising than just settling on what the other person wants (my needs = their needs rather than their needs > my needs), e.g. if someone is offended by something I did, I expect them to communicate with me, and I get upset when they start accusing me of not doing something when they never told me to do it. I don't see why I need to walk on eggshells around someone who won't try to meet me halfway through communication. I don't tend to put people on this pedestal where I prioritize their wants and needs unless I'm overly attached/unhealthy. Adding onto this, I don't really enjoy doing things if it's "for the good of others," if it's not important to me or those absolutely closest to me, or if it doesn't bring me praise and attention, I couldn't really care less. Can someone still be a 2 even like this?
-
I read that 2s tend to become salty and upset when they feel unappreciated, which I resonate with, but I also feel like everyone (or at least all heart types) would find this relatable. I don't see much of a point in doing things if they don't personally benefit me, I give to get mostly, whether what I'm getting is the same treatment or praise or affection, they all equal the same thing to me, which is love. I also won't bother keeping up an act around people I don't mind losing if I feel they no longer serve me, this can also be said for environments, if I feel like the environment no longer serves me, I may put less effort into maintaining a certain appearance there, and more effort into finding a new environment/person and creating a new persona for that.
-
Regarding emotions, I feel like this trait also fits 3 more than 2 for me - I tend to only express emotions when I feel like I'm in a safe place to do so. However, I wouldn't exactly describe myself as cold/emotionless, I feel like it's more just neutral? I'll feel them if I need to/feel safe to, I'll repress them if not. And if I'm around someone who values emotions and talking about them, I may exaggerate my own. Same goes for the other opposite, if I'm around someone who feels talking about feelings is too heavy, I simply won't do so around them, and won't expect them to either. Ultimately, I feel like I let other people set the pace for my relationships with them, rather than imposing an already existing persona onto them.
Ultimately, in regards to core desires, it feels like the idea of being successful means nothing if I'm not loved/appreciated by those close to me, but at the same time, the idea of being loved/appreciated by those close to me means nothing if I'm not also successful. I'm also more focused on gaining affection & praise from those I consider worthy/equal to me, and don't care much about receiving it from those who aren't in my circle, and whilst praise feels nice no matter who it comes from, I'll only go out of my way for it if the result = the effort, or if I'm guaranteed to get it from people I like.
