Some History about Kishore Kumar in 1970s and Constituitional morality of Congress.

History, Heritage & Culture

One of my favourite singer and a pure artistic talent Kishore Da. An amazing actor and even amazing singer. But do you know what the today's saviour of democracy and free speech did in the 70s?
So, Sanjay Gandhi asked Kishore Kumar to come and sing at his Mumbai Rally to promote government schemes. Kishore Kumar practicing his freedom of speech, refused....
Sanjay Gandhi, son of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi got Kishore Kumar banned from state-run media All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan.

Now his voice was not heard on radios, no producer and director gave him work. At the peak of his work, 70s he was stripped of work, why? because ego of the son of PM was too fragile.

Before this ban, he sang massive hits including Mere Sapnon Ki Rani," "Roop Tera Mastana," "Yeh Shaam Mastani," and "Gaata Rahe Mera Dil" among others.

Not even radio, The sale and distribution of his gramophone records were halted by HMV, acting under pressure from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Alongside the broadcast ban, there were income tax issues and pressures to perform in government shows to "tide over financial problems".

But he was a braveheart, Kishore Kumar did not apologize for his refusal to support the Emergency propaganda. When threatened, he reportedly stated, "If required, I shall quit singing," but he never surrendered to the coercion.

The ban was lifted on June 16, 1976, after intervention by Balasaheb Thackeray, with top filmmakers and personalities urging a resolution.
Ultimately, the ban served to highlight Kishore Kumar's integrity and his legendary status in Indian cinema, adding to his mystique rather than causing a permanent decline in his career.

But it showed clear face of the congress government, acting as a tyranny rather than a democracy, this incident shows how much congress valued constiturional values over their personal ego.
