Need serious help and guidance regarding career opportunities.
Hi folks. It's a little long post so please hear me out.
I'm now currently in the end of 6th sem in my college. My course is of 5 years - Integrated Dual Degree so it's kind of similar to end of 4th sem in a BTech course. I have unfortunately done a lot of mistakes in my college life so I need some serious guidance and help regarding placement and intern season, so any seniors who have gone through this please help me out.
In my college life(esp in 2nd year) - I mostly stayed indoors. I didn't make a lot of friends or did any of the typical "masti" that ig everyone does as I had an accident that damaged my thoracic spine and even simply sitting or walking made it extremely painful. I couldn't study or go to classes regularly because of the pain- so my GPA dropped quite a lot - from 8.6 to 7.98 in a single year. Ps: I'm in a tier 1 college with core branch-Mech so the subjects in 2nd year aren't quite easy to ace.
In my 3rd year - I started with competitive programming-CP and I quite liked it. I started doing LeetCode along with it too. I got fairly decent in LC and became Candidate Master (CM) in Codeforces. But the main issue is that even if I'm decent in DSA , I haven't started any Dev or any domain related work yet. And intern season for integrated dual degree(IDD) students in my IIT is scheduled to start from July.
Half of the posts in r/developersIndia were fear-mongering and it was super confusing for me as a fresher. I haven't started ANYTHING in domain related work and I have only 3 months to prepare for intern season. Another huge issue is resume - I couldn't participate in any extra-curricular activities in my clg - and now they no longer take guys from 3rd+ year onwards in clubs anymore. I also didn't install LinkedIn, out of fear , that my classmates would find out that I had literally zero accomplishments.
The only positives are that I have a fairly decent CF rating(1900) and decent GPA - 8.02 for Mech. I don't know what to fill in resume - because there's nothing honestly to fill - I only have done some core projects as a part of my clg curriculum. There are no extra curricular achievements in my case.
I need to learn some domain - and I would appreciate if somebody helps me here to choose a good domain as i haven't explored any and frankly I don't have a liking to any particular one- and create a project worth putting in my resume in 3 mo. I also need help regarding non involvement of any extra -curricular activities in my resume - is it a deal breaker ? Same for not having LinkedIn - do companies care about such profiles ?
