Input
i could use some input on my situation, I am currently a 23M and I'm thinking about going no contact with my family of two parents, a sister who is 6 years older, and hopefully not my brother. i am the youngest and have felt like I have had certain issues that my other family members don't really get, anytime I try to explain myself they think that I try to play victim or that I'm looking to blame other people/things and this has been due to mental disorders, life circumstances, and just general confusion about my future. anytime I try to express myself it results in them telling me I'm making excuses or they try to tell me about their pain which is 100% valid but it feels like they invalidate my experiences. i then feel like I can't open up because I've been told about how I'm selfish, ungrateful or sensitive and man up. so I have slowly put up barriers and not feel comfortable opening up. lately I have been also trying to express that I don't feel emotionally safe with my parents because while they are amazing and how shown up and provided lots of things for me, I still get angry about how my dad has never tried to make a connection with me about my interests, hobbies, just general small talk. my mom says I need to make more effort but when I see him laugh and giggle and play with my nephew and family dog he is so happy. i don't understand why he can't talk to me like that. when I got angry about it they said Im selfish because they have done so much for me. my sister then called the next day and said that I can't visit my niece because of me doing recreational marijuana (which I will say is a respectable boundary and has every right to do so) but this follows a pattern of my immediate family of being like if I don't do what they say or conform they threaten to take things away or not involve me in things, another example is when my mom said she's going to my neurologist appointment with me and when I said I'd rather not like that she threatened to take me off the insurance. her concern came from my elilepsy and marijuana use. i don't know what to do but I would like some input because I left the house and got my own place and barley talked to them since. but I've been so much more calm and happy in my own space and I'm not feeling like a failure. i know I'm not perfect and I'm making mistakes, but I have a full time job, a truck I have fixed up, I have an apartment and enough money to buy food. I'm not perfect but I feel like I'm doing ok.
