moving across the country

hi guys! i need some advice. i currently live in new york, and im thinking of moving to washington state to live with my long distance boyfriend (and to get away from my toxic mother) but im scared!! has anyone moved across the country before? what advice would you give me? also! should i rent a uhaul and make the long drive with all of the things i have already, or do i bring a few suitcases and fly and just start fresh when i get there? moving is a big deal to me, especially so far away from the place i grew up in, so im quite scared. any advice would help!!
