I recently visited Ebb and Ember floating sauna in Portland, Oregon. My honest review of the experience and their sauna.

TLDR:

No ventilation, door swings the wrong way, low ceilings, cheap materials in the sauna room, and visible plywood on the benches.

Location: 6/10

Amenities: 9/10

Sauna: 2/10

Price: 3/10

The sauna is located in a nice marina in a not so busy part of Portland. The parking is great and it was very easy to find the sauna. The host was there changing out propane tanks when we got there, but the sauna is completely unmanned. There are nice bathrooms and showers onsite, but it almost feels like they spent more time and focus on the showers and lounge area than the sauna. The location was beautiful on the river however the river was very fast and quickly after jumping in you float to the end of the sauna.

The sauna: the sauna itself was somewhat lacking. Extremely low ceilings (basically butt at stone level). Intake air located by the heater, but there was not exhaust air anywhere in the sauna. This led to poor air quality and circulation within the sauna. The benches were constructed out of the cheapest cedar 2x4s and face screwed down onto plywood. Which means there is plywood probably off-gassing inside of the sauna.

The big red flag for me. The door opens inward, this is not acceptable for a sauna and pretty dangerous setup.

I expected a little bit more from a Nordic company, but it seems that the sauna was built with little care for quality
