SMU TOEFL Writing requirement 4.5 — any exceptions if I get 4?

Hi, I’m applying to SMU as an international applicant and I’m a bit concerned about the TOEFL Writing requirement.

I understand that SMU requires a minimum of 4.5 in Writing, but I’m expecting around a 4 in Writing while meeting the overall TOEFL requirement.

Has anyone been admitted despite being slightly below the Writing cutoff?

Do they ever consider applications holistically, or is the sectional requirement strictly enforced?

I’ve already submitted my application and TOEFL score is pending, so I’m trying to understand if there’s still a chance or if I should prepare for a retake.

Any insights would really help!
