Uber rideshare drivers
Title: Uber vs Lyft in Saskatoon – Real Driver Earnings (Not What You Think)
I’ve been driving rideshare in Saskatoon for a while now, and I wanted to share my honest experience because I feel like most riders don’t actually know what’s going on behind the scenes.
With gas prices being so high and maintenance costs increasing, driving for Uber is honestly becoming not worth it anymore.
Here’s what I’ve personally noticed:
Uber vs Lyft (from both sides):
👉 From a rider perspective:
- Lyft is usually cheaper than Uber
- Better promotions and discounts on Lyft
- Overall smoother app experience
👉 From a driver perspective:
- Lyft pays around 80% of the fare
- Uber pays around 50%–53% (sometimes even less)
- Lyft pays better for wait time
- Long pickups are handled better on Lyft (which matters a lot with high gas prices)
💰 Real hourly comparison (my experience):
- Lyft: about $34–$39/hour
- Uber: about $17–$22/hour
That’s a huge difference.
Most riders think drivers are making good money, but after gas, insurance, and wear & tear, Uber drivers are actually making very little.
I’m not trying to complain—just sharing the reality.
If things continue like this, many drivers may quit Uber, and that will affect service for everyone.
Curious to hear from other drivers in Saskatoon (or across Canada)—what’s your experience been like?
