How to spot mites?

My hamster is balding behind one ear and has two small red dots on his neck but no hair loss other than that one ear. I checked his enclosure which I had just cleaned 2 days ago and I rlly don’t see anything. I looked super in depth and scanned the cage w flashlight everywhere.

I haven’t added any new things to his cage either so there’s no way it’s from an outside source. Is there mites on hamsters that aren’t visible to the naked eye? My eyes are super sharp and I would usually spot if I did see one..
