My Take on Dhurandhar (The Revenge) as a Muslim
First up -
I found it a masterpiece in Film making. (I would argue its even better than D1).
Ranveer's performance was exactly as everyone's calling it, Legendary.
Now, Did I find it Anti Muslim and Anti Pakistan which the liberals are crying about so much? absolutely not.
The Scenes where the "Blasphemy" burning was shown is something which the Muslim scholars of the subcontinent and Arab world have consistently condemned. The movie even goes further ( Shows how Major Iqbal and his goons manipulate the mob for their own evil motives using religion as a cover)
Now, Giving Rehman Dakait, Iqbal and "Bade Sahab" stylish BGMs was not something I liked. But the attempt to humanize Dakait and Iqbal is seen as well, Especially Dakait with wife and son.
And regarding the propaganda, how is it so bad that someone has a different narrative ?
The outrage from the liberals was laughable. A few of my pakistani friends watched the movie and loved it. Fine, We may not agree with some policies but is it right to ask for banning a movie and stop freedom of expression? over a disagreement?
and No, "Jassi" fighting to protect his sister is not brainwashing anyone to kill minorities anywhere.
The fact that Hamza walks off at the last scene while Iqbal screams horrible stuff to him WITHOUT retorting back against his religion speaks volumes.
So no, reducing the movie to a propaganda for some political party seems almost disrespectful to the Sacrifice Jaskirat/Hamza, Aalam bhai and Jameel mamu do.
All I wish and what keeps me asleep is the thought that somewhere Jassi or whoever has sacrificed so much is at peace somewhere.
