Rights as a property owner for neighboring housing development in Auckland

Property & Real estate

Hope this is an ok question for here. Im mainly looking to find the legal requirements and legal rights as a property owner if my neighbor or another property owner in the neighborhood is planning a property development (bunch of town houses).

So essentially, i live in Auckland, and our area is tagged as "Residential Mixed Housing Suburban Zone". It seems like developers are trying to build some dense/tall townhouses in the neighborhood, and more specifically our neighbor. Unfortunately, we understand that part of this is within their rights, but sadly doing so would completely destroy our view (as well as several neighbors), destroy our privacy, and destroy the neighborhood (in terms of parking, safety, peaceful-ness etc).

From what i understand, the "Residential Mixed Housing Suburban Zone" allows for buildings upto 2 stories and about 3 units per land (atleast thats what i read - please correct me), however in the same neighborhood (same zone) there was a recent development of about 6-10 townhouses (2-3 floors), how is that allowed? This had already caused a lot of chaos in terms of parking as well as ruining a lot of the neighboring properties. We are afraid that same thing may happen next door to us.

So the question mainly is, are there any rights for us in terms of preserving our views, privacy, and general peace of the neighborhood? What sort of development is allowed to happen in our neighborhood? How was the previous development (mentioned above) allowed to happen? Are there any actions we can take proactively to do anything?

The end result that most people in the neighborhood are hoping for is that there would be no further dense development like townhouse complexes.
