My sweet baby boy Remmy, who I found on the streets of New Mexico just a little over a year ago, had several of his teeth already missing. I was finally able to afford a dentist appointment a year after I had him, and according to two totally different Vet dentists, he has to have all of his teeth removed. This absolutely breaks my heart. I don’t know how old he is but the dentist guessed around six years old, which I figure is still pretty young for a Chihuahua.

I’m very very concerned for his quality of life after full extraction. But it looks like that’s what I have to do. I don’t know what his previous owner did, but I know they didn’t take good care of him.

What really concerns me is that the Chihuahua I had before him had his teeth cleaned every year and he had perfect teeth but one day he had an abscess on the back molar and we had to get a biopsy and it came back as malignant melanoma and we ended up fighting cancer for a year and a half, and it was very traumatic and it was very hard.

And so to me it seems like if you care for the teeth or you don’t care for the teeth, Cancer can still happen either way so that is one concern because anything having to do with the mouth is a little bit traumatic for me since my little Capone got cancer.

Additionally, I’m concerned about jaw fracturing during the tooth extraction. I saw a post on Wright at the other day that somebody’s poor little Chihuahua had their jaw fractured during the tooth extraction. I just want some words of encouragement or advice from somebody who’s had a dog who had all their teeth removed and how their quality of life was afterwards. Thank you so much in advance.
