Why i stopped wearing hijab and dressing modes
So im 23 years old & i come from a very strict conservative Muslim family from india. I was taught to dress modest and cover up from a very young age. Initially I loved wearing the hijab and dressing modest it made me feel special and protected at first ngl. But then it got to a point, my mom and uncle they always used to comment on how i dress like that is too tight “ that is too revealing “ blah blah blah it like literally all the time. No matter how hard i cover up or dress modest thyll always have something to day. Like there were times my uncle wouldn’t take me out to family functions or weddings just because my clothings were too tight or revealing that was his reasoning and my mom fully backed him. This really pissed me off and made me start to thing.
like i wasn’t even allowed to wear whatever i want at home LIKE LITERALLY MY HOME WHICH IS MY COMFORT SPACE like thing abt it they would ask me to ask cover up just because some guests are coming or not to sit in or sleep in certain ways around my house. THIS ONE TIME it was too hot and we don’t have ac or anything so i just slept that day in a tshirt and shorts in my own room. Next morning i woke up to my mom shouting at me saying that im lost now i have changed blah blah . Saying im not modest and stuff. And guess what? It was my uncle who complained to her about me. Like i cant even even in sleep however i want in my own space? like how about just not looking at home minding your own business instead of sexualizing me all of the time. That was my last draw and i knew i had to move out or this will ever end.
so basically an year ago i moved out. got my own place and a job. I finally feel free i can dress however i want . I stopped wearing the hijab and dressing modestly . I literally sleep bare now with no one to judge or control me. Its not that i hate the religion. mainly the people its so controlling and against women. Cause these people be using islam as a tool to control women. right im in doubt of leaving islam like im not sure what to do. Cuz ik there also good people out there for example my aunt who’s religious and all but she completely supported me and told me i can do whatever i want she was a complete Opposite from my mother and uncle. So yeah but guys moving out was the best thing ever.I’ve realized that a lot of my frustration isn’t with Islam itself, but with some of the people I’ve encountered and the way things are practiced or discussed in certain spaces. That’s been really hard for me to process, because I don’t want to confuse negative experiences with the religion as a whole.
At the same time, I can’t ignore that I’ve been having doubts. I’m not sure where I stand right now, and that uncertainty is honestly scary. Part of me still feels connected, and another part is questioning things more deeply than I ever have before.i know there are girlies out there who felt jjst like this or are being controlled still i would day just be independent and move out!!
but i freaking hate my uncle and mom.
