How are tourists managing payments in India without UPI?

I’ve noticed many tourists struggle with payments in India since most places prefer UPI.

If you don’t have an Indian bank account or number, what’s the easiest workaround?

Recently met a few travelers using wallet-based apps that allow scan & pay without full bank setup — curious if anyone else has tried something similar?

Would love to know what actually works on ground.
