Keldeo research, snapshot problem

i am on the Keldeo research and am told to take snapshots of 20 water or fighting pkmn. but it doesnt work on multiple instances of the same pkmn. lets say a magikarp... i take a snapshot and encounter another magikarp. it doesnt work. is this a bug?
