Is this a good idea?

I planned something and need feedback if it makes sense or not.

So I'm a rarepair writer. People usually won't find such a rarepair, they mostly stumble over it by searching for other tags.

Now I'm thinking of writing a kind of Trojan horse.

Here's the goal: have popular character A x popular character B first. Then the popular character B slowly gets interested in character C (the rarepair partner I want for B).

People will come for the popular pair, and stay for the rarepair because now they're too deep in the fic and need to see how it ends.

Then they'll think: hm, I never thought these two would vibe together, does the author have more of this?

And when they click on my profile they do find more.

I'm not going to lure in readers just to betray them when the main pairing changes. It will be tagged from the very beginning and made clear that the endgame will be different.

That's how I found the rarepair, to be honest. It was just a side pairing in a fic when I decided these two vibe together.

So would my plan work for visibility and potential new attention to the rarepair?

I'm going to write the fic regardless, even if it might not work as intended, it's not just going to be bait.
