My roommate got scared and ran away

My partner, my roommate, and I signed a lease and started renting a house together. About four months into living with them, his daughter (11) came to me and my partner and told us that her father had been purposefully getting her drunk. She told us that one night he came into her bedroom and laid next to her. They watched a movie together, about halfway through she looked over and he was touching himself. She told us that one night he got her drunk and then left her 2 miles (a 40 minute walk) away from home in the cold, with no shoes. She told us that he used to lock her out of the house for hours in the middle of the night. Hearing all of this absolutely broke me.

I reported the situation and I took her to work with me that day, while i racked my brain for what to do next. I took her to my mom’s house after work and we spent the night there. About a week into us staying with my mom, he somehow convinced me to let him see her. Apparently he got her on tape revoking her previous accusations, but i believe she was manipulated.

The police then dropped the case. That same day he packed all his things and left. That was March 5th, it’s been almost a month and i haven’t heard from either of them in over two weeks.

I feel like ive failed her, i feel like a horrible person for letting him see her. I wish i could’ve done things differently. I miss her, and i truly hope she is safe out there. Last i heard they were halfway across the u.s.
