Advice needed

Starting a job where I'll be frequenting most areas of the Bronx as a white female. Every post that talks about safety on here mentions not to be a target but what does that really mean in the Bronx? No clothes to make me stand out or flashy jewelry I get that. I'm really excited for this opportunity but would appreciate tips on how I can exercise street smarts beyond what I already do in cities (and life in general) especially as a female. Thank you
