Probably unpopular opinion? (Rant)
I would have so, SO much rather had a tomodachi life 2 in the style of the 3ds game, with an apartment building and several distinct locations, than an open world if it meant decreasing the mii cap. Like I genuinely just don’t care that much about it. It’s cool and exciting in theory, but not with such a major drawback. Just give me all the new mii customization options, and a bunch of new locations and new interactions that can happen in them, but in the same discrete location format. Then you could *increase* the mii cap instead of decrease it.
It’s just frustrating, this feels like another example of Nintendo prioritizing an “open world” over actual features. I don’t care that I can drag them together, I don’t want to micromanage anyways! TL is about relationships randomly and naturally forming! We don’t need another open world Zelda with nothing filling the vast world, and we don’t need a tomodachi life with a big exciting new customizable map that you can’t even fill with miis. What’s even the point then??? Space isn’t exciting unless you have something to fill it with! What am I supposed to do with this whole big island???
Sigh. At the end of the day, I’m still gonna play it. I’ll try to find workarounds by having multiple islands, and trying to find the bright side by giving each island its own identity in my decorations. But I’ll always be a bit sad that I won’t be able to have interactions between all my different miis, and that I have to choose a trade off between having more characters I care about on any given island, and more room for babies and then grandchildren. I was really holding out hope the datamined limit was wrong somehow, but alas. Nintendo’s modern design philosophy has been bothering me for a while, I shouldn’t be too surprised. It’s genuinely so ridiculous to have a smaller cap than the 3ds.
