AITA for ignoring my friend and riding into town like Christ while my followers sang “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Israel” behind me?

Some backstory is meet: Five years ago a voice commanded me (M38) to leave my house while I was at my plough. Then, I met a friend G (M32) and joined with that people commonly called Quakers when I was convinc’d of the truth in them.

Since then, I have traveled around England preaching the inward light, condemning empty rituals perform’d in steeplehouses, and proclaiming woe upon those false hireling priests whom God has appointed me to denounce. For a sign that Christ is risen in the hearts of men, I also grew my hair and beard to resemble that Christ which was crucified in Jerusalem.

I once held G in great unity, but now he is become too timid, and I fear he quenches the spirit. But I found a number of friends who still hold true to the light, and we are not afraid to speak whatever the spirit directs.

After I argued with G about this matter, my friends and I were moved to make a very public sign unto all the world. I rode into Bristol on horseback in imitation of Jesus Christ entering Jerusalem, while my friends walked behind me singing hosannas and laying their garments on the ground...

We were arrested immediately.

This generation of vipers has misunderstood the sign and overreacted, to their own condemnation. I hear that I am to be charg’d with blasphemy, though I utterly deny this! I abhor that my friends addressed me with honors due to God, but it pleased the Lord that they were moved to do so! What was I to do?

The lying hypocrites are much wroth with me. Though I have been arrested many times before, this time seems different, and I fear that I will be punished most grievously. G is horrified, and fears some grander retribution on all the children of light.

I did nothing wrong, but cannot help but wonder if I should have approached this differently. Perhaps I should have restrained my friends.
