Difficulty finding willing electricians! DIY Solar Install UK.
Hi,
I'm sure this topic has been covered many times over in this forum, but it's even more pertinent than ever!
I'm based in the UK (South Wales) and I've decided to install a modest solar system to offset some of the household electricity demand. I have a 2kw array which I plan to mount on my shed and a ground mounted frame. I have 48v 100ah battery which would be able to meet most of my daily demand (≈5.5kwh), and a 6kw inverter which is big enough supply most of my circuits barring the oven circuit.
I would like to run a secondary supply board from my main board and move selected circuits from the main board onto the secondary board. I then want a manual changeover switch to allow me to run the secondary board directly from inverter output and easily switch back to the grid if needed. I also want an AC feed into the inverter so I can charge the battery on a cheap tariff at night. I'm not interested in exporting back into the grid.
I bought Ecoworthy kit for the project. The whole system has cost me around £1600 and I should see a relatively quick ROI.
My problem is that I'm having a massive issue finding a willing electrician to come and do the work on the AC side. I've probably called every electrician in my area and nobody is interested in getting involved. Had I known it would be such a pain I probably wouldn't have bothered, but i have all this equipment now and determined to put it to use.
I'm wondering if people have had similar challenges and how they overcome them? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
