Lightning port audio adaptor starts music

Hello, I use my iPhone 14 Plus (latest iOS) to run a metronome app for a band I play in. I plug in a lightning-to-3.5mm audio adaptor and from there it is fed into the master audio system. However, when I plug in my adaptor, it automatically starts playing whatever is in my music app. Also, if my screen goes to sleep and then I wake it back up, the music will start.

Is there any way I can restrict this from happening? I only want music to play when I actually ask it to!!! Thanks for your help.
