Adding on social media

I would say my social media instagram is pretty good but when i follow girl on there i have a quite low success rate meaning i dont even grt a follow back.

Yesterday i added a girl from class with which i have not talked IRL, she hasnot added me back.

So from your experience is this a bad plan to add girls on instagram without knowing them should i only try this AFTER knowing them IRL
