Do foundations take storm damage?

Discussion

On my Styx open world base, I had dirt foundations with stone floors/walls up until I replaced the all of external build pieces with concrete. I never noticed the dirt foundations taking damage from storms, but they were occasionally attacked by animals that couldn't reach the walls.

A friend and I recently started an Elysium base that's half floating and halfway supported by concrete beams, but I hate the way it looks. We're not far enough in to justify fully replacing everything with concrete foundations yet.

Googling this tells me they do get damaged (all from older sources), but my own recent experience on Styx suggests otherwise. I'd be fine settling for stone foundations early to get a footprint down if they won't be needing daily repair.

Was my own experience a fluke or is there some other mechanic in play that "protects" the foundations from storm damage after they're topped with storm resistant materials or at least half buried in the ground?
