pata hai aaj kya hua I met someone about 8 months ago, and honestly, he is one of the kindest and sweetest people I have ever come across. He was never creepy, never forced anything, never flirted inappropriately, never asked for my number first, never asked for photos—nothing uncomfortable at all. Just a genuinely respectful person. We are of the same age, and slowly, over time, we started talking more and more.

At first, it was just casual conversations, nothing serious. But slowly, those conversations became longer… deeper… and more frequent. Somewhere along the way, we even exchanged WhatsApp numbers. And I won’t lie, he is extremely intelligent and genuinely a very good human being. I always admired how calm, helpful, and real he was.

But a few days ago, I started noticing something… he was giving me indirect hints about his feelings. So instead of dragging it or confusing things further, I chose to be honest. I told him clearly that I don’t think long distance relationships would work for me, and I said no.

He didn’t react badly at all. In fact, he was calm. He just said he needed some space for a few days and that we shouldn’t talk for a while. I respected that completely and told him it’s okay, and he can text me whenever he feels ready again.

After a few days, he messaged me again saying that not talking to me was much harder than he thought it would be. After that, we slowly started talking again… but something had changed.

Not everything felt the same anymore.

He sometimes takes longer to reply, sometimes goes quiet, and doesn’t talk with the same ease he used to before. And I’ve told him this too—that I miss my old friend. But he keeps saying he is the same person and nothing has changed. Even after I tried explaining it a few times, he still insists everything is normal. But deep inside, I can *feel* the distance… and that feeling is hard to ignore.

And honestly, it hurts in a way I didn’t expect.

At the same time, I feel really guilty. There are moments where I just sit and question myself… why can’t I love him back when he is actually such a good person? I’ve cried thinking about it—like why can’t my heart just feel what my mind thinks is “right”? It makes me feel confused and helpless at times.

Earlier, I started talking to him just because he was an IIT student and extremely intelligent, and I found that interesting. But over time, I didn’t just see him that way—I genuinely got attached to him as a person. He has helped me a lot too, especially with assignments and presentations, always being there whenever I needed guidance.

But recently, even that has changed. When I asked him for help with a PPT, he refused and said he couldn’t do it. I didn’t push him—I just accepted it quietly—but it still felt different from before.

Now I’m at a point where I don’t really know what to do. I’ve become attached to him more than I expected. I can’t seem to stop talking to him, even when I feel like maybe I should give him space. And somewhere in the back of my mind, I keep wondering if even talking to me is hurting him too.

I just feel stuck… between not wanting to lose him, and not being able to give him what he probably wants.

# TLDR:

I met a really sweet guy 8 months ago and we became close. He developed feelings for me, but I don’t feel the same and told him no. After that, he became a bit distant and different. I feel guilty and emotionally attached to him, but things are not the same anymore, and I feel stuck between keeping the friendship and accepting the change.

P.S. - just used a tool to rephrase it a bit for better wording.

“He was perfect for me… but I still said no”
