DUI charges

Has any CA's ever avoided a DUI charge? My boyfriend has one and he got convicted almost two years ago, but never heard anything. No mail, no nothing. The city he's from is definitely busy in the crime sector & I know there's a statue of limitations for conviction (this was in Georgia) so I wanted to know if anyone or they've known has had similar experiences.
