I thought a digital worker would fully replace outbound lead generation work
When I first heard about digital workers handling outbound lead generation, I thought we had reached a turning point. The idea that a system could replace repetitive outreach tasks entirely sounded like the perfect solution.
So we tried it. And while it definitely helped, it didn’t replace the work in the way I expected. Instead, it shifted the nature of the work.
Instead of writing every message manually, we spent time refining targeting, improving messaging frameworks, and analyzing performance. The manual effort didn’t disappear, it just moved upstream.
In a way, that’s a good thing. It forces you to focus on strategy rather than execution. But it also means you can’t just “set and forget” a digital worker.
The biggest lesson for me was that automation doesn’t eliminate work, it changes where your attention is needed.
And if you approach it with the wrong expectations, you’ll be disappointed.
