how do you incorporate volunteering/traveling abroad into your resume and recruiting strategy?

Advice

have about 1.5 years of corporate consulting experience but thinking of taking 2-4 months off to travel and volunteer abroad while job hunting for my next gig. obviously what i do (most likely bartending or reception) won't be directly related to my professional career so i'm just wondering how people have spun experiences like this in their resume, interviews, etc. have recruiters reacted negatively to gap months or can it be something that actually adds to being a more competitive candidate?

obligatory comment that i know the job market sucks right now & you shouldn't leave without anything lined up, but i'm in my early 20s and willing to take the risk.
