Baldur’s Gate is so fire
I spent the longest time putting off my start of this game, incorrectly thinking that because of the age it would be slow, boring and hard to understand.
The last part is still a little true, but currently it’s just about learning what the different stuff means when you’re looking at your stats. All I know is that with THAC0, the smaller the number the better the armor.
I’m playing the Enhanced Edition on the Switch, so I don’t know how many QoL changes they made, but so far I’ve been able to survive. Lots of fights require multiple attempts tho.
But one of my favorite things so far is the storytelling. I’m surprised at the amount of scripted encounters, which is something I really like in RPGs. You know, people approaching you and interacting with you, like the Mercenary Guard who asks if you’re a bandit who’s been causing trouble. My favorite so far is the one about the man who tells you to leave the tavern, because he dislikes adventurers due to something that happened to his son, who wanted to be a traveling adventurer. I managed to talk him through it and calm him down.
I don’t know, just stuff like that that I find very interesting in RPGs. So yeah, I was wrong about this game.
