[US] A call from the Federal Reserve…

Scam report

I received a call today from the “Federal Reserve” in regard to a credit card issued by US Bank in Nov-25 with a balance of $67xx that hasnt been paid for over 60 days.

The scammer goes by the name “Joy Hernandez” with a thick Filipino accent, quite hard to understand, shockingly was able to verify my full SSN#s, but incorrect current mailing address. She used an address from 20+ years ago. She said the card was issues in NYC (I’m in California), therefore I’d need to file a report with NYPD in order to disassociate this card from my name.

she was going to transfer the call to NYPD, and I have “2 hours window” to file the report and fax it back or something something would happen (again, thick accent, really hard to understand). She played it well, quite professional on the phone, without asking any sensitive information). I can definitely see why some people would fall for this.

What really caught me by surprise is her correct recital of my SSN#. I guess after multiple data leaks this information is no longer a secret to criminals.
