Why can't other big-name publishers treat their subsidiaries as well as Nintendo treats Monolith?

Meta

When Microsoft bought out Rare, they kept forcing them to ignore their beloved IPs and churn out shitty Kinect Sports games. And considering how many of their more recent acquisitions have just been shut down, Rare is ironically one of the lucky ones.

EA is notorious for buying out smaller companies, running their IPs into the ground, and shutting them down with no fanfare.

And then there's Nintendo. Monolith has finally had the unrestricted freedom to make the grand-scale JRPGs that they always wanted to make, without any of the development complications that plagued them under Squaresoft or Bamco (i.e. Xenosaga's planned 6 games being cut in half forcing them to awkwardly wrap everything up in Episode 3; basically everything involving Xenogears disc 2). All that Nintendo has ever asked from them in return is the occasional development support on big-name titles like Zelda and Animal Crossing.

What makes Nintendo's relationship with Monolith so different from other developers and their owners?
