If Hoyo released books set in Genshin's world, would you read them?
I know there was the manga but as far as I'm aware, the manga only existed before the game came out. Aside from that, I mean books more specifically like a novel, largely without images aside from a sick cover of course.
While we wait for what is seemingly forever for the anime, which most expecting to rehash an arc that we play through in the game, I think books that are definitively considered canon but don't focus on the Traveler would be really interesting.
And it could be anything, - aside from heavy lore books or stories from Teyvat's history 500 years or more prior - with any genre from crime to drama, and I imagine could involve characters that we've seen, playable or otherwise while potentially introducing us to characters that we may or may not see in the future. Like a crime that Chevreuse and Emilie have solved in the past or explore the >!aftermath of the war in!< Natlan, >!especially thinking about people we couldn't save in Act IV or the flood in!< Fontaine and how it affected common people that the Traveler might not have met and the reconstruction that we didn't get to see.
I don't imagine the books would be any kind of required reading of course. Though it could be fun for them to introduce a character in a book and maybe we first see them in game via an event or SQ as usual - and they'd still need introduction to the Traveler anyway. But books in this way could serve as some background stories at most. And as we get more regions in game, it does become harder to find time for events that bring us back to the growing list of prior regions. While you can't get the same kind of exploration in a book as you can from a map expansion, we could still get a fun story I think 🤔
