Pre-emergent?? Are the forsythia liars?

Am I too late to put down pre-emergent on my lawn?

I’ve seen some forsythia blooms for the past two-ish weeks, but everything I’ve read says to apply in early to mid April, and that to put it down too early as a bad thing because it wears off too soon.. We’ve had such early warm weather though , but then it would jump back down to freezing (StormFreak where you at? Do you know lawn care too??) and I just don’t know what to do.

This is only like my second year really diving deep into lawn care, and I I’m not looking to repeat my crap grass battle from last year. I was planning to put down Scott’s Halts with Lawnfood this weekend…am I too late? Or is there something else I should do?
