Anyone Living with IR Ceiling Heating? What Flooring Feels Best
Hi all,
Looking for some advice from people who’ve dealt with newer A-rated homes in Ireland.
I’ve recently bought a new-build A2 house in Dublin, and the ground floor heating is infrared (IR) ceiling panels (not underfloor heating). There are panels in the living room and kitchen, and a standard electric radiator in the hallway.
I’m trying to decide on flooring for the ground floor, and I’m getting conflicting advice:
Some say go with laminate (good balance, feels natural, works fine with radiant heat)
Others strongly recommend LVP/LVT, saying it’s more stable and “better with heat”
I’ve also been told flooring should be thermally conductive so heat goes into the concrete slab (which sounds more like underfloor heating logic to me?)
So I’m a bit confused about what actually matters with IR heating.
My key questions:
With IR ceiling panels, does flooring thermal conductivity really matter?
Is there any real efficiency difference between laminate vs LVP/LVT in this setup?
Does laminate have any realistic risk of warping/drying out from IR heating?
What have people here actually used in similar A-rated homes, and how does it feel in winter?
I’m aiming for something that:
Feels warm/comfortable underfoot
Works efficiently with the heating system
Holds up well long-term (Irish humidity etc.)
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone with real-world experience rather than just sales advice.
Thanks!
