The biggest surprise from testing an AI phone rep
We recently tested an AI phone rep to handle inbound lead qualification, mostly to improve response times. Going in, I expected the biggest benefit to be speed, and it was. But that wasn’t the most surprising part.
What really stood out was consistency. Every call followed a structured flow. Every lead was handled without delay. There were no missed opportunities due to availability issues.
At the same time, it highlighted the tradeoffs. While the AI phone rep was reliable, it lacked the adaptability of a human in more complex conversations.
The takeaway wasn’t that AI replaces humans, but that it fills a specific gap, especially where speed and consistency matter most.
It’s made us rethink how we structure our inbound process.
