Fuck with me? How about you lose money instead
So I wanna preface this with the fact that I have posted about this job, but this is kinda the whole story, including the past week.
So it all start May of last year, I walked in thinking everything would go well. First day, literally while I’m in training, my manager disappears for an hour long phone call with her baby daddy while I had a whole rush ahead of me. No biggie, right? This is the worst of it? NOPE. Over the next few months, countless things broke without being fixed for months, we’ve had product go bad literal days after we received it, constant menu changes, bad customer relations due to being asked to lie about how vegan/celiac/allergen safe our food is (I never did, cuz I’m not a slimeball) as well as dishonest pricing, we haven’t had a manager since October because she quit and we never had a replacement, they never gave me Earned Paid Sick time, or paystubs. And I couldn’t walk away, I couldn’t find a job at all, and I’m usually the type to have a cushion before I dip out of a job.
Now we fast forward to earlier this year, tax season. When I say i literally just got my W-2 mid to late February, I’m not joking. I had to ask the owner constantly if I was getting it, and when I didn’t, I had to find the accountant, call them and get it. And he sent me a messed up W-2. It was missing so much stuff, then the accountant dipped off the face of the earth, so it was extremely difficult to get a W-2C. And then I managed to get him to get me my paystubs as well, which felt like a whole battle of attrition.
And now we fast forward to last week. I’m honestly at my breaking point, my girlfriend even pointed out the fact that I’m barely responding when we’re gaming. I’ve never been so utterly drained in my life. She was trying to tell me it’s time to find another job, and I agreed, but I didn’t know how much longer I could keep going. At this point, I’ve been the only server, and I’ve been trying to work with the little food we had left as we’ve been missing half our menu due to the fact that my cook wasn’t trained with every dish and the owners have been relying on the cook to do all the shopping for the restaurant. So I saddled up, and just waited. Saturday rolls around, I get my check and continued waiting. Once we closed, I, what I assume was out of instinct, threw out the entire cold bar’s worth of food including dressings and smoothie ingredients, locked up, and quit the next day when the store was closed, no notice. And they’ve been closed since then, losing money in what little food they had left to refrigerate and what little regulars left were turned away by the closed sign. I am doing far better now, looking for a job and trying to save what money I can. I know this wasn’t that explosive, but it feels good to actually post this conclusion
