Folks who were alive, how was Madonna's song received?

Just watched all the movies. As a 27 year old man, it seems to me that Madonna's song is by far the most unique bond song.

I'm curious if there was any vitriol or hate behind it. It seems like Billie Eilish's and Sam Smith's snooze-fest songs and the 'controversy' that surrounded them pale in comparison to Madonna going, well, full Madonna for her song.

Could anyone who was around shed some light on this?

I enjoy her song btw.
