2017 Hyundai i30 1.4 T-GDi with DCT - long term reliability and fit for purpose (UK)
Going to look at a 2017 Hyundai i30 Premium SE Tourer at the weekend, it's the 1.4 T-GDi with the DCT gearbox, with 56k on the clock, from Hyundai Approved Used. Advertised at around £10,000, with full Hyundai service history, however, the gearbox has not been serviced to date.
It only did around 3,500 miles per year for the first 4 years (2017 to 2022), and has done about around 10k per year since. The previous owner was an older guy who changed it for an SUV as he was struggling to get in and out.
I've done some research and finding mixed views on the dry clutch DCTs - seems half the people dislike them saying they're unreliable and juddery, and the other half saying they're fine.
We will do around 7,500 miles per year, which will mostly be \\\~20 minute journeys through Norwich at rush hour. Hoping to keep whatever car we get long term (5+, maybe 10 years).
What should I look out for when test driving this? Is the gearbox likely to be a weak point, is it suited to our needs / driving style? Should we expect an extortionate repair bill in the future?
Thanks in advance!
