What if you didn't have a vault? Everything becomes Use it, Sell it, or Lose it.

:M2026:Marathon (2026) Discussion

When I'm not playing with friends I like to use free kits until I loot better gear, then I'll fill out what I need from vault or armory, and use that kit until I die. Rinse and repeat.

What if you didn't have a vault at all (excluding faction upgrade materials)? So no hoarding or stockpiling. Every piece of gear was either immediately used or sold.

Naturally you can still buy from the armory and use Sponsored kits, same as now.

Pros:

Teams are less likely to have large amounts of Self-revives and bubble shields. while they still can, it is riskier as however may you have will be on you until death.

Higher level players can still amass credits and purchase an advantage from the armory, over lower level players. But, this is very difficult to maintain economically

Excellent loot (gold and red gear) is more likely to make its way into the general population. No ability to hoard lots of gold guns

Rare gear feels even more special because you don't have 9 more copies of it sitting in your vault if you lose the one you're carrying

Scheduled wipes are much less of an issue since you wouldn't have a whole vault of items getting reset

Cons:

This is a fundamental change to the game that would make it unlike any other extraction shooter (that I know of), and would be risky because of that.

Some players really like amassing a large vault, watching "the number go up" is a motivator for some.

Highly Active players would be disproportionately punished, as they have the most to gain from being able to store high quality gear.

Pro/Con:

more players will be fighting with, on average, lower quality gear. Some people will like this some will not.

What is the community's take on this idea?
