Looking to move here, advice on the area?

My wife and I have been in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for 20 years and would like to get a bigger place. With pricing in Bay Ridge, that's just not possible. Looking over Zillow, it seems Jersey City is much more affordable.

We have friends in JC who recommend looking in the Heights. We're thinking of taking a couple of days off and trying to experience the area to see if it would be a good fit.

I work from home (software) and my wife works mostly from home with a couple of days a week in the city (East Village).

We'd love to hear about your favorite (and least favorite) qualities of the neighborhood, things to do, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.
