Local repair guy was supposed to repair a patch in the porch roof. He ended up completely destroying it
TL;DR Read the title. Nothing is in writing WRT agreements, but we do have pictures of the before (from Google images) and the after (currently). I guess we could provide bank statements? But everything was paid in cash.

Okay so he's a "family friend" right? He put tarps around the porch (which was totally great) and was paid a cool 150 USD for that work. We also bough him a meal, drinks, whatever.
Yesterday he was supposed to just patch a hole in the porch roof too. Cool. He had his tools, a few friends to help out, he made no indication that he was gonna do anything but patch the roof. My parents leave the house, come back, andddd...
Well, as it turns out, he completely removed the roof and destroyed the pillars holding up the roof AND he refuses to do anything to fix it. Hasn't been paid for this task yet. He insists that he should be paid more for destroying it, actually.
Is there anything that can be done about this? Nothing was received in writing which I think means it's hopeless, but I'm just curious. I should note that the roof was made of like...high quality cured wood and has lasted for 10+ years, just had a little hole in it due to unexpected, crazy intense snowfall earlier this year rotting it through. His claim is that ALL the wood had to go. He wants to replace what he destroyed with cheap plywood. Again, he expects us to front the cost of everything.
P.S.: I'm getting this story somewhat secondhand from my parents (I wasn't there when it happened and they are understandably upset that their roof is now gone), so it's tough to say the exact construction work he did (like, official terms, I don't know) but that's the gist of it :( I just feel so bad for my parents and I'm not sure what I can do short of connect them with an actual repair man
